Wild Garlic Seeds
We harvest wild garlic seeds by hand, from the banks of our stream in the ancient woodlands at Farnell Farm, and then they are dried to the correct moisture content level, as directed by the Millenium Seed Bank at Wakefield Place. Then they are sealed into special foil seed packs, which store the seeds for longevity. These seeds are all from our own woods. Only a small percentage of our wild garlic is harvested so our stocks remain sustainable.
The Wild Garlic (Ramsons) Allium-Ursinum
Britain's native wild garlic is a perennial herb. Their white flowers carpet the banks of the stream in our ancient woodlands in spring and their strong fragrance hangs in the damp woodland air. The leaves are edible and taste great chopped into salads, or used to flavour meat dishes and sauces. Its perfect for making natural wild garlic butter. The wild garlic flowers from April to June. The seeds need a moist loamy soil with a damp shady environment. They grow up to 46 cm. high. In autumn and winter. Scatter the seed on bare soil under trees. Lightly roll the soil but do not rake over. Sow seeds at 200 seeds per square metre.
We supply native wild garlic seeds to individuals and conservation groups. Each foil seed packet contains approximately 150 seeds. This is the amount of seed needed to seed 1 square metre of land. Larger amounts of seeds can be supplied for conservation projects. Please e-mail for details.
